When DC decided to reboot all their comics, there was only one title I wanted to get: Superboy. Ever since buying my first trade paper back, (collection of 4-6 issues of a comic,) JLA: A World Without Grownups, I loved him. I picked it up for 50 cents at my library in ratty condition. The story arc is about all the grownups in the world dissapearing, including the Justice Leauge, and so all the teen heroes of the DC universe have to try and figure out what happened and keep everybody under control in the meantime. It featured Robin, the (future) leader of the Teen Titans, Impluse, an ancestor of the Flash from the future brought back in time, and Superboy, a clone of Superman and Lex Luthor. (Side note, the team was called Young Justice and they were kind of the predecessors to the Teen Titans of the comic universe.) Back to Superboy... He was the lovable badass, he wore a leather jacket and everything he did was snarky and awesome. His powers kick every kind off ass. He has what is called "Tactile Telekinesis" or TTK, which is basically "distant-movement" + "touching" in Greek. This means he can "fake" the powers of Superman; he can move himself with his mind and make himself fly, or lift heavy object when he touches it, you get the idea. So he's not just a carbon copy of Superman, he has his own cool deal. Anyways, the New 52 was DC's way of completely rebooting their universe, throwing decades of comic stories out the window to introduce a new continuity. It pissed off tons of fans, but at the time I had been solely a fan of Marvel for years, and it didn't affect me. With Superboy getting a brand new origin and series, I decided to jump back in and start getting it. It was hard to stick with, you need to buy a ton of other series for it to make sense, for every 2 issues I bought it seemed I needed at least one issue from another series for it to make sense. Also, the art was not great for a long time, and sometimes got downright awful, like in issue 14. The story was good for a while, with nods to former fans with hidden jokes and new versions of old classic enemies of Superboy's, but overall poor writing and unresolved stories that made you need tie-ins. I stopped getting it at least 3 times over the past few months, and after issue 14 with poor writing and horrible art I was done for good (again...) Today in the comic store I picked up issue 15 and flipped through it. It had VERY tasty art, and had a very neat story. Issue 16 comes out tomorrow, and I'm getting it again. I'm glad to see they might finally be giving one of my all-time favorite heroes the attention he deserves.
